Tanka Epic, Part 1

This is the first part of the Tanka Epic, my attempt at writing an epic poem where each stanza is a standalone tanka. To begin the journey, click below.

Swords shining brightly
In the fading August light,
Red rivers flow north
Toward the gated city
Where the throne of man’s bane lies.

Blades of heroes flash.
Demons flee before the charge.
Hooves of awesome steeds
Bearing the hope of mankind
Crush the hordes of the Black Crown.

The Dark Lord glowers
At the pool before his feet.
Visions of defeat
Swirl in the milky waves,
But his reign is not yet done.

The great Knight Seraph,
Vanguard of humanity,
Crashes through the gates
Into the Onyx City
To face the Dark Lord himself.

A hero of myth,
The Knight Seraph gave no name
As he strode boldly
Into the Opal Palace
And gave man the light of hope.
